SSH Intel reads several independent signals. Each measures a different thing, starts at a different time, and can tell you something the others cannot. Here is the whole set in plain language.
The four headline signals
- Recorded
- Official Honolulu Police Department crime records (public open data). The area's incident record. Coverage begins August 2025. The most recent month is always the least complete; records settle over about a month.
- Reported
- Community submissions to the Stolen Stuff Hawaii network. Unverified and alleged, counted on their own axis, never mixed into the official count. Coverage at scale begins July 2025.
- Noticed
- Public attention: views of public SSH posts across the network's platforms. An audience measure, not an incident count. This is the deep one, going back to July 2017, nine years of community attention no competitor has.
- Sought
- Search demand: what people typed into the public SSH search site. A measure of what a community is worried about or looking for. Beta, since January 2026.
The operational signals
- Dispatch
- HPD calls for service: what police were sent to respond to. A count of requests, not confirmed incidents. Live coverage since February 2026.
- Traffic
- HPD traffic incidents and collisions. Live since February 2026.
- Weather / Hazard
- National Weather Service alerts for the island (flood, wind, surf, and similar), for context alongside the human signals.
The long backdrop
- UCR / NIBRS
- The FBI and state long-run crime series, going back to the 1980s. This is a separate, county-level historical backdrop for context on Crime History, never spliced onto the area incident record and never graded.
Why the start dates differ. These are genuinely different instruments with
different histories. We state each one truthfully rather than pretend they all begin on one convenient day. A signal
appearing to "start" is a coverage boundary, not a real jump in activity, and the tool labels those boundaries so you
are never shown a false trend.

One promise, everywhere. Every figure here is descriptive: a count of what
was recorded, reported, noticed, or sought, in a stated past period, with its uncertainty shown. Nothing on this
platform is a safety score, a grade, a ranking of places, or a prediction. That is a deliberate choice, and it is
explained in What we will never do, and why.
